♦ Dame Sarrasine choses the character of the Queen of Sands, in reference to the Queen of SABa.
The character of the Queen of Sheba will inspire writers and Arab poets and especially the masters of Sufism,
whose great master Ibn Arabi for which the Queen of Sheba has a leading role, mystical and poetic inspiration.
It is a kind of Solomon feminine projection.
- Moheiddine Ibn Arabi was born in 1165 in Andalusia and died in 1240 in Damas. Jurist, theologian, poet and metaphysician.
He is considered the greatest Sufi master.
His work of 846 works is listed by Osman Yahia, in "history and classification of the work of Ibn Arabi".
- Before, there is the poetess, Sufi mystic Rabia Basri al Qaysiyya more known as Rabia Basri.
Born in 713 or 717 in Basra and died in 801 in Jerusalem, there are her poems in the work of Ibn Arabi : "Illuminations Mecca".
- Before all these great sages poets, lived the greatest poet of Arab civilization :
Zuhayr Ibn Abi Sulma, born around 530 and died in Yathrib between 602 and 627.
Great source of poetic inspiration for all subsequent storytellers.
Closer to us, in France, our great poet Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891) wrote in the letter of the seer in 1871:
"...So the poet is really a fire thief.
He is responsible for the humanity of the animals : he will have to make his inventions feel, touch, listen; if what he reports
from there has form, he gives form: if it is formless, he gives formless. Find a language;
-Besides, every word being an idea, the time of a universal language will come! You have to be an academic,
- deader than a fossil, - to perfect a dictionary of any language. Weak people would start thinking about the first letter of the alphabet, which could
quickly rush into madness!
This language will be from the soul to the soul, summarizing everything, fragrances, sounds, colors, thought hanging thought and
pulling. The poet would define the quantity of the unknown awakening in his time in the universal soul: he would give more
- than the formula of his thought, than the notation of his march to Progress! Enormity becoming standard, absorbed by all; it would really be a multiplier of progress! ..."
♦ Dame Sarrasine took the character of the beetle for all the symbolism, as well as we find a lot of beetles
(onymacris unguicularis) busy in the desert :
Its longer legs than other family members allow it to support its body at a great distance from the hot sand and move quickly
on sand dunes.
By late afternoon, it is exposed to the sun until night to retain heat necessary to overcome the cold desert nights,
and digs a burrow in the sand to keep out the cold.
In the morning when the desert is still immersed in a soft moisture, it lowers his head and bends its abdomen upwards.
The fog condenses on his back can then flow directly into its mouth through its shell with rough edges guide the droplets
to the mouth.
Dame Sarrasine would add that the desert nomads taught her that this little beetle is used against the venom of scorpions.
If stung, take a beetle and apply mouth bettle against the sting by attaching the beetle with a towel around the affected area,
Thus blocked, it will suck the venom. Fortunately, Dame Sarrasine have never been able to test this remedy personally during
her travels in the desert
